Overview
SwapText replaces user-defined words and phrases when you copy or cut text from supported webpages. The extension processes that text on your device. It does not send copied text, replacement rules, or browsing information to the developer or to a server operated by the extension.
Data processed on your device
To perform a replacement, SwapText accesses the selected webpage text or selected text in supported input fields when you copy or cut. When preserving formatting, it also processes the selected HTML and text styles. It uses the current page hostname to decide whether domain-specific rules apply. It writes the resulting text, and optionally HTML, to the copy or cut event's clipboard data. SwapText does not continuously monitor the system clipboard or read its existing contents.
Local storage
SwapText stores your replacement rules and settings in browser-local extension storage. Rules include find text, replacement text, matching options, enabled state, and optional domain restrictions. Copied text is not saved as a clipboard history. Text you choose to add as a rule is saved as part of that rule. Sample text in the options-page preview is not intentionally persisted by the extension.
Local rules remain until you delete them, replace them through import, clear extension storage, or uninstall the extension. Browser-managed backups or device backups may retain copies under your own settings. SwapText does not use browser storage sync.
Clipboard and exported files
The corrected clipboard content is available to the operating system and apps into which you paste it. Clipboard managers, operating-system clipboard synchronization, and destination apps may process that content according to their own settings and policies. These services are outside SwapText's control.
Export creates a JSON file containing your rules and settings on your device. Import reads a JSON file you select. Exported backups may contain private text entered into your rules. You decide where to keep or share them. Deleting rules or uninstalling SwapText does not delete files you previously exported.
No telemetry or remote processing
SwapText includes no analytics, advertising, tracking SDKs, remote scripts, or developer-operated backend. It does not sell user data or transfer it to advertising or data-broker services. Its user data processing is limited to the replacement and rule-management features described here. Browser-store updates and the browser itself are governed by their respective providers' policies.
Permissions
Website access allows SwapText to receive copy and cut events on supported pages, including frames, and read the selected content needed for a replacement. Storage access saves rules and settings locally. The context-menu permission provides the selected-text shortcut for creating a rule. Password fields are excluded from replacement by SwapText's field-selection logic.
Website and support
The website demo processes sample text in your browser and does not submit it to the developer. This website does not include analytics or advertising scripts. The hosting and network providers may process request metadata, such as IP addresses, to deliver and secure the website.
If you email [email protected], your email address, message, and any attachments are processed by our email forwarding and mailbox providers so SwapText can respond and investigate issues. Do not send confidential copied text or full rule exports. Correspondence may remain in the support mailbox until deleted. Email [email protected] to request deletion, subject to applicable retention obligations.
